Lahore, February 15, 2024: In a decisive move, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken disciplinary action against fast bowler Haris Rauf, stemming from an investigation into his refusal to join Pakistan’s Test squad for the Australia tour in 2023-24.
Following an extensive hearing process conducted by a dedicated PCB committee and considering the input from all relevant stakeholders, the PCB has opted to terminate Haris Rauf's central contract, effective from December 1, 2023. Additionally, no No Objection Certificate (NOC) will be granted to Haris Rauf for participating in any foreign leagues until June 30, 2024.
The PCB management afforded Haris Rauf an opportunity for a personal hearing on January 30, 2024, adhering to the principles of natural justice. However, his response during the hearing was deemed unsatisfactory, leading to the subsequent termination of his central contract.
The PCB emphasizes that representing Pakistan is the highest honor and privilege for any athlete. Haris Rauf's refusal to be part of Pakistan's Test squad, without presenting a medical report or justifiable reason, is considered a significant breach of the central contract.
This action underscores the PCB's commitment to upholding the principles of accountability and maintaining the integrity of the central contract system, reinforcing the expectation of unwavering commitment from players representing the national team. As the cricketing community processes this development, it serves as a reminder of the responsibilities that come with the privilege of wearing the national colors.
This decision also sends a strong message regarding the importance of aligning personal commitments with national duties, setting a precedent for all players under central contracts. The PCB remains dedicated to fostering a culture of accountability and excellence within Pakistani cricket.
