Lahore, 12 February 2024: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has unveiled the distinguished panel of match officials for the highly anticipated HBL Pakistan Super League 9, set to unfold across four venues from 17 February to 18 March. The tournament will showcase a total of 14 matches in Lahore and Multan from 17 to 27 February, followed by 16 matches in Karachi and Rawalpindi from 28 February to 12 March.
Key details regarding the match officials for the Qualifier, two eliminators, and the final, scheduled in Karachi from 14 to 18 March, will be disclosed in due course.
The ICC’s elite panel of umpires will be represented by Richard Illingworth, Chris Gaffaney, Ahsan Raza, and Michael Gough. Joining them are Abdul Moqeet, Aleem Dar, Tariq Rasheed, Shozab Raza, Rashid Riaz, Faisal Afridi, Ruchira Palliyaguruge, Asif Yaqoob, Alex Wharf, Nasir Hussain, Imran Jawed, and Muhammad Asif.
Illingworth, a veteran with six previous league editions, holds an impressive record of officiating in 48 HBL PSL matches. England’s Gough, with four editions under his belt, has umpired 34 matches, while Wharf and Sri Lanka’s Palliyaguruge bring their expertise with 11 and three matches, respectively. New Zealand’s Gaffaney is set for his league debut, officiating the clash between Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings at the Multan Cricket Stadium on 18 February.
Roshan Mahanama, with 97 HBL PSL matches to his credit and a former ICC elite panel member, will lead a team of three match referees, supported by Ali Naqvi and Muhammad Javed.
The opening match, a thrilling encounter between defending champions Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United in Lahore, will witness the experienced duo of Aleem Dar and Michael Gough on-field duties. Tariq Rasheed will serve as the TV Umpire, Shozab Raza as the reserve umpire, and Muhammad Javed as the match referee.
